Chinese Police Officer Detained for "Hurling infant"

In an effort to win a bet that a child was actually just a doll, a drunken police officer in Henan has been detained after he picked up and threw the seven-month-old baby.  The child suffered a fractured skull and is now said to be out of danger in a local hospital.
"The policeman involved in the baby attack was put under criminal detention on Saturday night and was transferred to a detention centre in Anyang City this [Sunday] morning," Guo Fajie, head of the public security bureau of Anyang city, was quoted as saying by state news agency Xinhua.

There was initial public outcry when the officer in question was "confined" for only 15 days.  The incident is reminiscent of a fight in a Beijing car park, in which one child died after been thrown to the ground by an irate car owner.  Interestingly, an investigative team was only sent to Henan after massive outright over the leneincy that the police officer has initially received, in spite of their efforts to control social media, the government and local officials don't seem to have a choice in ignoring it.
